This was bought at the same flea market that sold me the Genius Plus Soul Equals Jazz album for the same dollar price. I already had the Atlantic CD box at the time , but going through rows and rows of dollar records in a warehouse was making me grow the pile and who can argue with adding an Atlantic Ray Charles to the stack?
So anyway the listening session before shipping was enjoyable and not as scratchy as I graded it. Everyone knows the title track, but there are other gems that I hadn't really focused on.
The whole thing is excellent but my favorite of the rest is "Tell Me How You Feel" written by Percy Mayfield. The piano led instrumental two part “Rockhouse” that kicks off the second side was another favorite. Ray lets Mary Ann Fisher take over the vocals for “What Kind Of Man Are You.”
A bandleader tour de force.
